In the highest area of Caxias, up the hill, the Atlantic breeze mixes with the shades of the countryside and the eye travels across the Tagus and out to sea.

To preserve an unusual landscape, a large urban park will be created that will extend along the Ribeira de Barcarena to Fábrica da Pólvora and will unite the São Bruno Fort, on the seafront promenade, with Paço de Arcos, integrating Caxias into a protected green space.

Sparsely populated at the end of the 16th century, the area was rediscovered by the Carthusian friars of São Bruno, finding a perfect natural environment for a life of retreat and contemplation.

In the midst of this celestial peace, already in the 18th century the Infante D. Francisco, son of D. Pedro II, ordered the construction of a small summer palace and idyllic gardens in the style of Versailles. Since then, Caxias has flourished under the protection of the tastes and needs of the royal family, enhancing its vocation of retreat and recreation.

During the 19th century, Quinta Real de Caxias, the only royal palace that existed by the sea, served as the summer residence of the royal family, which attracted the Portuguese elite, who began to settle along the coast and on the slopes of the valley.

In the 21st century, the pleasant urban environment of Caxias, surrounded by green spaces, with beaches, culture and facilities for the practice of numerous sports, has shown its enormous potential, seducing with its proposal of life to a young population in growth, each time more international.
